Moscow zoo opened an outside enclosure for giant panda cub Katyusha on Monday (April 29).

This is the first enclosure for Katyusha which, according to an official Moscow zoo statement, represents an important stage in the life of a panda cub.

The enclosure will allow Katyusha to safely explore her surroundings.

Katyusha was born at Moscow Zoo on August 24 and is the first panda to be born in Russia, according to the Chinese Giant Panda Conservation and Research Centre.

Panda mother Ding Ding and panda father, Ru Yi arrived in Moscow in 2019 to mark the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Russia and China.

The adult pandas were brought together in spring of 2023, while an expert on panda breeding came to Moscow from China to control and monitor the process.

Ding Ding’s pregnancy was announced shortly after she and Ru Yi were moved to live together.
