Cambodia cuts school hours by two due to extreme heat ANC
Schools in Cambodia started to cut classes down by two hours on Thursday (May 2), as a heatwave produces scorching temperatures in the Southeast Asian nation. All public schools are now required to operate from 7 to 10 a.m., a change which sees classes end an hour earlier. Additionally, afternoon sessions will commence one hour later from 2 to 5 p.m., according to an official statement issued on Tuesday (April 30). Cambodia’s meteorology department forecast a high of 39 degrees Celsius (102.2F) in Phnom Penh on Thursday. One climate expert has attributed the excessive heat to climate change and the impact of a powerful El Niño in the western Pacific.
