On The Scene: China is set to carry out a 3,000-meter ultra-deep-water seismic exploration with its self-developed seabed geophysical exploration vessel for the first time to explore more offshore oil and gas resources. The vessel, Haiyang Shiyou 720, or Offshore Oil 720, is run by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), and its operating area locates in the Heshan sunken of the Pearl River estuary basin in south China. The crew plans to complete a three-dimensional seismic acquisition of the 2,500-square-kilometer new oil and gas exploration area in around 60 days.
