Sakay ng isang custom-made na kulungan o steel transport container, dumating na sa Chiang Mai, Thailand ang 30-anyos na Thai elephant na si Sak surin nitong Linggo, July 2, para gamutin. Ang naturang ailiing elephant ay nanatili sa Sri Lanka ng halos dalawang dekada bilang regalo ng Thailand sa pamahalaan ng Sri Lanka taong 2001.

Matapos mapag-alaman ng ilang animal rights activist na minamaltrato umano ang naturang elepante, mismong gobyerno ng Thailand ang nakiusap sa Sri Lanka na ibalik sa kanilang bansa si Sak Surin para sa medical treatment.

/”From the reports that I have received, some of the injuries will need some time to treat. It’s won’t just be three or four months, it could take at least a year before he (the elephant) will be able to make a full recovery and be nurtured back to health,” pahayag ni Thai Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Varavut Silpa-Archa.

“I think we will have plenty of time to discuss whether he’s going back (to Sri Lanka) or not. Today, since he’s back under the care of the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, we are focusing primarily on treating his injuries,” dagdag pa niya. I via Reuters
